Ghosts of Media Past was a 30 day project to create an AR scavenger hunt on Unity 3D using Vuforia. We constructed a narrative around the basic functionality involving events triggered by scanning high contrast imagery. As lead artist on the project, I helped establish a global art style for the experience followed by spearheading all video production and 3D art and animation.
One of the more remarkable problems we had was importing cloth animations into Unity as FBX files. I found an easier solution for our time frame in the form of animating simple cloth ghosts using a spline based chain rig. Additionally, while we only had one developer on the team, I was able to jump in to do all the particle effects as well as helping solve some of the mathematical problems including setting up the ghosts circular trajectory around the active AR camera component.
